Absolutely about Music: Conversations with Seiji Ozawa
by Haruki Murakami

I was going to review this but I just read this sizzling review by Jeanne Thornton and realized I don't need to bother. Merci bien, Jeanne.

I will add, though, that these conversations are about a bit more than just conducting -- anyone who has ever played ensemble, regardless of what kind of music they play, can get a lot out of Ozawa's rehearsal tips. And Murakami, of course, writes in his inimitable style, even, seemingly, when he's transcribing Ozawa. I guess Ozawa was the score and Murakami the conductor.

Polite applause, but no cry for an encore.
